Soil and Water

You've seen these blue and yellow signs across the state, so come on past the one near the BIG Smokey Bear and learn what it's all about.  Learn how your local Soil and Water Conservation District affects your life every day.

Go down the hill behind Heritage Circle, past the new Tobacco Pavilion, and up the hill past Smokey Bear and the Forestry Equipment.  The N.C. Soil and Water Conservation exhibit is co-located with the NC Forestry Service in the GIANT TENT near the Lumberjack show.

The conservation districts’ exhibits are open daily during the fair from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., except October 17 when the exhibit will open at noon.

The Tunnel of Soil will be back again this year.  Learn what’s beneath your feet and about the living soil!  Find the Scavenger Hunt answer here and inside the main booth!

Spin the Wheel of Conservation and test your knowledge about North Carolina’s natural resources.

Everyone wins here!

Visit the Soil and Water Conservation booth to play games, see North Carolina’s diversity of soils profiles, and to learn about conservation hot topics such as pollinators, water quality, and composting.

Join us on both weekends, October 19 & 20 and 26 & 27,  to recognize the value of water by participating in the “IMAGINE A DAY WITHOUT WATER” water tasting bar and outreach.

Seven year-old Chloe would miss practical things like swimming and taking a shower. Chloe, you're right, we can't forget rainbows!

Join us for daily soil demonstrations from the Mobile Soils Classroom to learn more about soils and to be able to ask questions of professional soil scientists.
