American Chemical Society
With more than 154,000 members, the American Chemical Society
(ACS) is the world’s largest scientific society and one of the world’s
leading sources of authoritative scientific information. A nonprofit
organization, chartered by Congress, ACS is found at the forefront
of the evolving worldwide chemical enterprise and the premier
professional home for chemists, chemical engineers and related
professions around the globe.  The North Carolina Local Section,
which is one of 189 local sections, was founded in 1896 and is one
of oldest.  We have about 2500 members, which is the largest local
section in the Southeastern Region.  For over 10 years, the NC
Section has participated in various exhibits at the NC State Fair.
Our mission has always been to stimulate interest in science
among young people and to educate the general public about the
importance that science plays in continuing a high quality of life.
