Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011
Help us reach a 300,000 pound goal!
If fairgoers break last year’s record, the fair will donate $1,000 to the food bank.
If collections top 275,000 pounds, the fair will kick in $2,500.
And if collections reach 300,000 pounds, the fair will donate $5,000 to the food bank.

Fairgoers can bring four cans of Food Lion brand food to the N.C. State Fair on Thursday, Oct. 20, to exchange for one free admission ticket. Food Lion Hunger Relief Day at the Fair is one of the largest one-day canned-food drives in the state, held each year to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. In the 16-year history of the event, more than 2 million pounds of food have been donated by fairgoers.
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina will distribute the cans to needy people and hunger-relief agencies in a 34-county area surrounding Raleigh, as well as with Second Harvest Food Banks in other regions, such as Fayetteville, Winston-Salem and Elizabeth City.
