FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
High schools take the ‘green’ farm animal frenzy challengeRALEIGH — The wooden saw horses that left the State Fairgrounds a month ago came back looking quite different after local high schools turned them into farm animals using recycled or recyclable materials. Fifteen local high school art classes took place in the Farm Animal Frenzy to try to win $1,000 for their art program. “This is the third year of the farm Animal Frenzy art competition and each year we are blown away by the creativity shown by the art classes,” said Wesley Wyatt, State Fair manager. “This year’s challenge was even harder, and we are impressed by the variety of materials used, and creativity shown, in making these animals.” Cresset Christian Academy took the top prize with “Franny La Poulet,” a five-foot chicken made from the sawhorse, chicken wire and plastic shopping bags. Her eyes are old slide projector bulbs and her paper mache beak was made with old newspapers. Franny will glow at night with light bulbs powered by solar light panels. Wakefield High School won second place and $750 for its unnamed sheep made of wood, five-gallon paint buckets, and fur made of electrical chords, clothes lines and various other wires. The face is made of telephones, hair curlers, light bulbs, computer mice and other materials. Panther Creek High School’s “Moona Lisa” was awarded third place and $500. The cow was made of plastic milk containers. To see photos of all the animals, go to www.FarmAnimalFrenzy.com. -jkn-2
