N.C. State Fair tobacco-stringing contest is Friday at 2 p.m.

WHO/WHAT: The N.C. State Fair’s annual tobacco-stringing contest.
WHEN:   Friday, Oct. 16
2 p.m.
WHERE:  Log Tobacco Barn
Heritage Circle
State Fairgrounds
OTHER INFO:  Three-person teams will compete for a blue ribbon and cash prizes. They will string, or loop, tobacco the old-fashioned way, tying leaves to wooden sticks. The sticks will then be hung in the log barn, and a wood fire will cure the tobacco during the State Fair.

Teams should register at the log barn by noon Friday.

Prizes will be awarded for first through fourth places. Total purse is $500. The contest is coordinated by the State Fair and Duke Homestead. It is sponsored by the John Deere Ice Cream Boys.
