Farm Animal Frenzy winners announced

RALEIGH – It was a barnyard scramble, but “Murial, the Dairy Queen,” “Javier at the Fair,” and “Ms. Moo” came out the winners in the 2008 N.C. State Fair Farm Animal Frenzy.

Murial, a cow decorated by Apex High School, took home first place and the $1,000 grand prize.  Javier, a chicken decorated by Fuquay-Varina High School, won second place and $750 cash. Ms. Moo, a cow decorated by Jesse O. Sanderson High School in Raleigh, won third place and $500.

Judges also selected “Corny Carney Carl” by Wakefield High School, “Playin’ Hooky” by Garner Magnet School and an unnamed horse by the N.C. School of Math and Science as honorables.

Fairgoers can still go online at www.ncstatefair.org and vote for their favorite animals or schools. The school with the most votes will win the People’s Choice Award receive a gift certificate from Jerry’s Artarama. The competition was open to high school art programs in Wake and Durham counties. Nineteen schools competed.

The Farm Animal Frenzy is sponsored by Saturn of Cary, Saturn of Chapel Hill-Durham and Saturn of Raleigh.
