RALEIGH – A warrior chicken was able to fend off the charge of the other painted chickens, cows, pigs and horses to take the People’s Choice Award for the N.C. State Fair Farm Animal Frenzy competition. Online voting ended at midnight and the Garner High School Trojan Warrior Chicken won the competition with 10 votes more than second-place Sanderson High School.
The art classes of teachers Ben Olin and Samuel Kim chose to theme the larger-than-life chicken after the school’s mascot, the Trojan warrior. The chicken is painted to look as if it were made of wood and was dressed with a Roman-style helmet, sword and shield.
The Garner High School art classes will receive a $200 gift certificate and three art easels from Jerry’s Artarama.
The Farm Animal Frenzy is an art competition between 18 area high school art classes and clubs that decorated life-sized or larger horses, cows, chickens and pigs with the fair’s theme, “Seriously Twisted Fun.” The animals are scattered all over the fairgrounds throughout the duration of the Fair. The Trojan Warrior Chicken is protecting the horticultural exhibits inside the Exposition Center. The winners of the juried competition are located outside of the Exposition Center.
