RALEIGH – Six special trophies were awarded to dancers and singers in the N.C. State Fair Folk Festival competitions.
The Kudzu Ramblers of Raleigh won the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Trophy, and the Lutherridge Cloggers of Mt. Ulla took home the Ruth Jewell Trophy for performances that exemplify the historical and entertainment purposes of the Festival. The Wells Elementary Chorus of Wilson won the Annette Pulley Trophy for outstanding talent, sportsmanship, audience appeal and support of the Folk Festival. The Coal Mountain Cloggers of Spruce Pine won the Smokehouse Appalachian Freestyle Team Award and the combined teams of Center Stage and Wolfpack cloggers won the Audrey and Ellis Perry Trophy. Jessica and Joshua Woods of Archdale took home the N.C. State Fair Folk Festival Vocal Trophy.
Judging was based on sportsmanship, showmanship, appearance, skill, enthusiasm and time.
The Folk Festival is an amateur competition representing the traditional musical performances of North Carolina. The Folk Festival was established in1948 through the efforts of Lunsford to preserve and promote the traditional music and dance of North Carolina.
