RALEIGH – Winners of the N.C. State Fair student essay contest have been announced. Students in five divisions wrote essays on different questions relating to the State Fair. The contest was sponsored by the News and Observer’s Newspapers in Education program and the N.C. State Fair.
The top entries are on display in the Our Land Our Legacy exhibit on the fairgrounds during the Fair. All first-place winners received $100; second place received $50; third place received $25; and honorable mention winners received $10.
The first high school division addressed the question: “What do you think the Fair’s focus will be in the year 2017?” The winners in this category are:
The second high school division answered the same question, but instead looked forward to the Fair in year 2107. The winners are:
For grades 6 through 8, the question was: “If you were the Fair manager for a day, what would you do?” The winners are:
For grades 3 through 5, students about a contest they’d be interested in learning more about. The winners in this category are:
For students in grades kindergarten through 2, the topic was: “Draw your favorite Fair memory and write about it.” These winners are:
