The 2007 North Carolina State Fair will host Military Appreciation Day on Wednesday, Oct. 17, to pay tribute to members of the U.S. military for their service to the country. The day will feature special activities and performances by military bands.
Active duty, reserve and National Guard service members or spouses with valid military ID will be admitted free along with four guests. This is the second year the State Fair is honoring servicemen and women.
“Hosting a free day at the State Fair for our military members is our way of saying thanks for the sacrifices the nation’s armed forces have made,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “We hope our military families will mark their calendars and come out and enjoy the activities we have planned.”
Military Appreciation Day will be filled with fun activities for the whole family. The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome ceremony and musical entertainment from the 440th Army Band. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy free performances by the 82nd Airborne Chorus and the Heritage of America Blue Aces Rock Band on the Waterfall Stage near Dorton Arena.
Along with all the usual food, fun and festivities of the Fair, families can visit a number of military displays located around Dorton Arena. In the evening, the U.S. Navy Rock Band will perform on the Waterfall stage at 4 p.m.
