Tractor Pull - The competition at the Sam G. Rand Grandstand will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12; 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13; and 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Demolition DerbyDemolition Derby - Competitions will be held Friday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 20, at 2 and 7 p.m., with the championship match on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 2 p.m. There is a separate admission fee of $7. Keith King Bike Stunt Show - Showtimes Monday - Friday, Oct. 15-19, are noon, 3, 5 and 7pm. Saturday, Oct. 21, at noon and 5 p.m. and on Sunday, Oct. 21 at noon, 5 and 7 p.m. Shows are free except those being held in conjunction with the paid Demolition Derby events at 7 p.m Friday, Oct. 19, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21. Pitzer Heritage Circle Sponsored by Food Lion

Food LionVillage of Yesteryear - One of the State Fair’s most popular and enduring attractions, the Village of Yesteryear features more than 75 artists and crafters creating, displaying and selling time-honored handmade crafts. This exhibit, held in the Holshouser Building, offers fairgoers a great opportunity to get a jump on their holiday shopping with items for all price ranges. Fair visitors can watch crafters spin wool into yarn, weave yarn into cloth, make rugs, turn pottery, carve wooden bowls and utensils, make split-oak baskets and more. Native American crafts such as hand-coiled pottery, beadwork and stone carving are also featured. Kids and kids-at-heart can even make their own dolls or stuffed toy to take home. Storyteller - Southern history is full of myths, legends and tall tales. Sharon Hutto, a storyteller from Cottonwood, Ala, will share many of these entertaining tales with fairgoers while also demonstrating fire cooking. Before ovens, stoves and microwaves, individuals had to cook on fires built on the floor. The storyteller will demonstrate fire cooking in a 200-year-old pre-Civil War spider pot, cooking such Southern staples as biscuits, cornbread, beans and pies. Storytelling will be continuous throughout the day.

Bluegrass Stage

The Wells FamilyThe Wells Family from Clayton will provide the music on the bluegrass stage at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 through Tuesday, Oc 16.

Kenny and Amanda Smith BandThe Kenny and Amanda Smith Band from Meadows of Dan, Va. will provide music at 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 through Sunday, Oct. 21.

Waterfall Stage Sponsored by Kitchencraft

Sponsored by KitchencraftThe Waterfall Stage, located on the north west side of Dorton Arena, will host a variety of entertainment for the whole family throughout the week.

Billed as “the biggest little band,” the duo Sayer McShane performs a danceable, funky musical blend richly steeped in the blues. Originally from Detroit, guitarist/singer Kristin Sayer and drummer/keyboardist Carolyn McShane have relocated their musical groove to the Triangle. Leon Jacobs has been entertaining audiences with his performances of gospel, country and rock ‘n’ roll for more than 20 years. Ventriloquist Ty-rone Travis brings an assortment of puppets to life in Ty-rone & Friends, a humorous interactive show for kids of all ages.

On Military Day, Wednesday, Oct. 17, Military bands from across the state will provide the entertainment.

The day is fi lled with concerts on the Waterfall Stage
starting at 9 a.m. with a welcoming ceremony and
musical entertainment from the 440th Army Band.
At noon, the 82nd Airborne Chorus will perform,
followed by the U.S. Air Force Blue Aces Rock
Band at 2 p.m. The U.S. Navy Country Current

Folk Festival Tent

Folk FestivalFolk Festival - Talented dancers and musicians from across North Carolina compete for the coveted Bascom Lamar Lunsford Trophy, which is awarded to the individual or group that best exemplifies North Carolina’s musical heritage. This 10-day competition features performances ranging from old-time bluegrass music to high-energy clogging and traditional square dancing.

 

Many groups take traditional dances and add them to contemporary costumes and music to appeal to younger generations. Judging is based on audience appeal, authenticity, appearance, enthusiasm and competency.

Competitions are held daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the tent behind the Kerr Scott Building.

Roaming Entertainment

Fairgoers will not have any problem finding Carrie McQueen amid the fairway.  Also an accomplished juggler, Carrie McQueen stands out from the crowd with her dancing, juggling and comedy high atop a pair of stilts.

The Statue Viva performers, however, prefer to stay in the background…as living statues!  These stone-faced individuals stand expressionless and striking the pose of famous statues from the past. But watch closely because of all of the sudden, these statues come alive.

Mobile RobotsAl the Artist draws caricatures from his bicycle-powered Cartoon Car.

Mobile Robots provide strolling entertainment in and around Kiddieland.

Washboard Willy & Wishboard Wanda rove around Dorton Arena with their interactive rhythm playground.

McDonaldsKiddieland Fun Park Sponsored by McDonald's

Kiddieland Fun Park, nestled under the trees behind Kiddieland, caters to children with entertaining shows, rides and attractions, plus space to take a break from the Midway.

The furry canine characters of Raggs Kids Club Band will delight audiences with their interactive musical show. Raggs will perform daily at 2, 4 and 6 p.m., with an extra show at noon on Saturdays.

Magic 4 UMagic 4 U combines amazing magic tricks with information about agriculture and nutrition. Magic 4 U will perform daily at 1, 3 and 5 p.m., with an extra show at 11 a.m. on Saturdays.

Other Grounds Entertainment

Racing PigsCircle C Racing Pigs - Sponsored by Ray Price Harley Davidson - Circle C Farm will bring the Hogway Speedway back to the Fair with its racing potbelly pigs, ducks and pygmy goats. Fairgoers Sponsored by Ray Price Harley Davidsoncan cheer on the farm animals as they hustle around the track, located near Gate 9, at 1,3,5,7 & 9 p.m. daily.

 

 

Dale Jones the Jugglerhas been entertaining audiences on stage, television and fairs for years with the use of only one hand. Dale Jones will perform daily at 2, 4 & 6 p.m. at the Exposition Center, with an additional show at noon on Saturdays.

Fireworks will be shot off from a small island in the middle of the pond next to Gate 8 at 9:45 p.m. every night. Previously, fireworks were shot off in front of the grandstand, but our Midway expansion called for a new location. Zambelli Fireworks International will provide the fireworks.
