Web & Graphic Design Contest

Commissioner Steve TroxlerDear Educators,

October isn’t too far away, which means another exciting N.C. State Fair is just around the corner. With this comes a unique opportunity for your students to participate in the N.C. State Fair Web & Graphic Design Competition. This is the 13th year of this competition, which allows students to show off their artistic skills and online creativity using the State Fair as their subject in creating original graphic and Web page designs. More than $50,000 in prize money has been awarded in this competition since its beginning.

Technology is constantly changing, which is what makes this competition so interesting each year. I look forward to seeing how students will use the theme in the their designs and Web sites. The 2007 State Fair theme is fresh and exciting: Seriously Twisted Fun. I hope your students will have as much fun expressing their creativity as my staff had in coming up with the theme. With several educational and agricultural exhibits, a large and varied display of competitive entries, thrilling midway rides, daily entertainment and an endless supply of food, there are plenty of areas for them to draw on.

A lot of hard work goes into giving the Fair that sense of wonder and tradition that draws more than 700,000 people each year, and I am proud to say that this will be one of the best. I encourage you and your students to be part of it through the 13th annual Web & Graphic Design Competition. Good luck with your entries and I hope to see you at the Fair Oct. 12-21!

Sincerely,
Steven W. Troxler
Commissioner of Agriculture
